“Do You Want to Win This?” is a blog where we play a contest! The contest is a simple one: we take a random question from the public and we ask the questioner if they want to win a free Kindle Fire.
On February 9th, 2006, a company called “MySpace” was founded by the founders of a company called “LogMeIn Inc.” After months of playing with the MySpace code, the founders of “MySpace” realized the possibilities of a social networking site for teenagers. “MySpace” was a social networking site that allowed its users to create profiles that connected them to friends and family.
In a few days, the Super Bowl will be over and things will be back to normal. Football season is over, and so is the football season. In a few weeks, the NFL Draft will be over and the season will be over again. And in a few months, the NFL season will be over yet again.
Michael Jordan’s basketball skill was amazing, but it wasn’t the only thing that distinguished him. His Airness also possessed an unshakable will to succeed; every action, no matter how little, was an opportunity for the NBA great to show off his skills. Take his performance at one of Magic Johnson’s charity games, for example.
During a break, according to Rob Lowe, the celebrity coach on that fateful day, the Magic was being his normal fun-loving self, which MJ didn’t like. Jordan asked his buddy whether he wanted to win the game, despite the fact that they were playing for charity, and quickly whipped him into shape.
Michael Jordan wants to win at any costs, regardless of the competition.
Herman Edwards famously said during his tenure with the New York Jets, “You play to win the game.” Michael Jordan undoubtedly nodded vehemently in agreement as he spoke those now-iconic remarks.
As he was a kid, MJ’s renowned competitive fire started to flare when he fought his elder brother, Larry, for backyard dominance. While an early setback — Michael’s failure to make his high school’s varsity basketball team on his first try — might have doused the flames, the reverse occurred. Jordan won the JV competition, came back stronger the next autumn, and made the top squad. He went on to win McDonald’s All-American accolades before accepting a basketball scholarship to the University of North Carolina.
The victories simply kept on coming after that. Jordan made the game-winning shot to capture the NCAA championship as a freshman. His Airness racked up individual accolades in the professional levels and began collecting championship rings after eliminating the Detroit Pistons.
MJ, on the other hand, wasn’t satisfied with just winning on the court. Whether he was playing cards, golfing, or waiting for his luggage to arrive at the airport, the Chicago Bulls player wanted to be in first place. Cheating, trash talking, and everything else seemed to be on the table if it meant a win.
Anything less than the greatest was a failure for Jordan. Fortunately for him, his skill and determination were typically enough to get him the win.
During a charity scrimmage, yelling at Magic Johnson
Jordan’s competitive nature caused him to take everything extremely seriously, even charity scrimmages. That placed him in direct opposition to Magic Johnson at one time.
Jordan and Johnson joined up for one of Magic’s charity basketball games, as Rob Lowe described in an interview with Conan O’Brien. The match was, understandably, an attacking shootout, with no one playing any meaningful defense. While it provided for an amusing show, it ultimately irritated His Airness.
Lowe, who was acting as a celebrity coach at the time, felt he needed to do something and called a 20-second time out with a few minutes remaining in the game. During the huddle, the actor didn’t have much to say, but a particular star player did.
The actor said, “Karl Malone was on the team, Mark Jackson was on the team, I mean everyone, and I had nothing to say, of course.” “But when I glanced across at Michael, he was furious. He then turned to face Magic. Magic is, you know, being Magic and having a wonderful time. At that time, I believe the score was 240, no one was playing defense, and Michael said, “Hey guy, you want to win this?” And then, all of a sudden, a lightbulb went out, and Magic said, “Oh, Jesus Christ, he means it.”
While it’s unclear precisely what happened at the time, a Los Angeles Times article from August 1988 describes Magic Johnson’s charity scrimmage and mentions Robe Lowe as a celebrity coach. Jordan led all scorers with 54 points, despite his team losing 203-202.

While MJ may have been the only one who paid attention to Magic Johnson’s charity scrimmage, it wasn’t an isolated occurrence. Jordan, unsurprisingly, demonstrated his competitive edge during a game against Kenny Rogers.
His Airness also took part in a basketball game at the “Kenny Rogers Classic Weekend” in 1988. Despite the fact that the NBA player was pump-faked by the country singer, his skill ultimately showed through. Faced with the possibility of a humiliating loss, Jordan seized command, blocking shots, scoring on apparently impossible plays, and fist-pumping like he’d just won an NBA championship. In the end, MJ’s team triumphed by a score of 22-20.
Michael Jordan wouldn’t have it any other way, even if it was a charity game.

In a short time, I have experienced the highs of being on the front lines of making the biggest games of my life, surpassed by the lows of being just another employee. I have seen my career move forward at a rapid pace, only to be slowed down by management decisions that I couldn’t control. I have had the chance to work on the best games on the planet, but have also had the chance to work on the worst of them. I have seen more of the industry than most developers, having worked on major titles including Halo, Assassin’s Creed, Star Wars Battlefront, Pixar’s Ratatouille, Ratchet & Clank, Splinter Cell, E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy, Shadow of Mord. Read more about how to win and let us know what you think.
