The “what is shot pocket in basketball” is a question that I came across. This is because the “I Couldn’t Even Get a Shot Off” is a phrase that has been used on multiple occasions, but it means different things to different people.
Throughout his storied NBA career, Larry Bird was a savage on the basketball court. Bird was on a mission to demolish his opponents every time he went on the court, whether it was in the NBA Finals, a regular season contest, or a casual game of one-on-one at practice.
This was true of more than simply his NBA opponents.
Bird’s unrelenting competitiveness was first experienced by Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart in 1985, when the Hall of Famer challenged him to a game of one-on-one before a performance and didn’t even let him get a shot off.
Because to Bill Walton, Larry Bird became a fan of the Grateful Dead.

Bird made it a point to make Bill Walton feel welcome when he first joined the Boston Celtics in 1985. What better way to achieve it than to go to a Grateful Dead concert with him?
Walton is one of the most well-known Deadheads on the planet, so you knew the newest Celtic had to be there when the band visited Worcester, Massachusetts at the start of the 1985-86 NBA season. According to USA TODAY’s Jeff Zillgitt, Bird was aware of the situation and asked Walton if the whole squad could attend.
It was on that team field trip that Bird fell in love with the Grateful Dead, and in a 2002 online discussion with usatoday.com, he referred to Jerry Garcia as the “Michael Jordan of musicians.”
Walton told USA TODAY, “The Celtics and the Grateful Dead symbolize so much of what I believe in, live for, and strive to achieve with my life.” “The Celtics were a family organization because of the culture Red (Auerbach) had established. The Grateful Dead, too, are a family. They both have the potential to inspire, encourage, and enable you to be yourself while also allowing you to grow into something greater, better, and more significant than yourself.”

The band joined Walton and company for a practice at the team facility the day after the Celtics attended the Grateful Dead concert in Worcester. The Dead had another show that night, but the band members decided to put their abilities to the test on the court first.
Bird, ever the ruthless competitor, challenged drummer Mickey Hart to a casual one-on-one match, but it turned out to be everything but friendly.
To say the least, it was embarrassing.
‘Walton tells me that you want to see how amazing I really am,’ Larry says as he walks directly for me. Larry fires the ball at me like a missile. I was just around 15 feet away. I grabbed it and immediately thought to myself, ‘This is not a good thing.’ ‘Me and you,’ he adds as he drags me into the court. I wasn’t even able to get a shot off. ‘Hey Larry, I’ve got to play (drums) tonight,’ I remarked as he began to inspect me thoroughly.

That Saturday in 1985, the new-look Celtics became more than simply a team. They formed a bond and became a family.
The Celtics won their third NBA title in six seasons a few months later, defeating the Houston Rockets in the 1986 NBA Finals. It all began with some music and tie-dye shirts.
