Ben Simmons’ never-ending story has taken yet another tragic turn. For refusing to participate in exercises with the rest of the club, the unhappy point guard was booted out of practice and suspended for Philadelphia’s season opening against the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday.
And after practice, Joel Embiid is a forward for the Philadelphia 76ers. finally snapped and slammed Simmons for his juvenile conduct since rejoining the 76ers last week.
Yes, this calamitous scenario seems to be growing worse.
Ben Simmons has been suspended by the Philadelphia 76ers for “conduct detrimental to the club.”
For the first time since rejoining the Sixers last week, Simmons was supposed to talk to the media on Tuesday, but he never made it to the conclusion of practice.
Head coach Doc Rivers allegedly requested Simmons to participate in a defensive exercise during practice, but the point guard declined. Rivers inquired once again, but Simmons declined. So Rivers instructed him to go home if he wasn’t going to play with the rest of the squad, and Simmons did just that.
The 76ers confirmed shortly after that Simmons will be banned for the team’s season opening against the Pelicans on Wednesday.
Rivers told reporters after practice Tuesday, “I felt he was a distraction today.” “I didn’t believe he wanted to do the same thing as everyone else.”
“I’m going to give Ben every opportunity to be a member of the squad… as a coach, my first priority is to safeguard the team.”
With his post-practice remarks, Embiid wasn’t as nice.
Ben Simmons gets obliterated by Joel Embiid for his immature conduct.
This summer, Embiid has attempted to give Simmons the benefit of the doubt. For the previous few months, the All-Star center had only talked favorably about his missing teammate, but after Tuesday’s disaster, he finally broke.
To be honest, I don’t give a damn about that guy right now. He is free to do anything he wants. That is not my responsibility… I’m just concerned with making the team better, winning some games, playing hard every night, and leading the players we have here.
Our role isn’t to babysit anybody at the end of the day. We are paid to perform on the court, to go out and play hard in order to win some games. That is what we are compensated for. We are not compensated for coming out here and attempting to babysit someone. That isn’t our job, and I’m sure my coworkers agree.
Joel Embiid
That’s all there is to it. Embiid has had it with Simmons’ arrogant attitude and immature handling of the issue.
It’s difficult to blame him.
Simmons is fighting a battle he can’t win.

By sulking about during practice and refusing to engage in exercises, Simmons has made it very obvious what he wants to achieve. He only returned to the 76ers in the first place to avoid being hit with heavy penalties. Simmons has no intention of returning to the franchise for another game.
But he doesn’t seem to understand that the Sixers aren’t going to give in to his frantic efforts to gain leverage. This is now a battle, and Simmons is doomed to lose.
The 76ers took advantage of Simmons’ rage outburst on Tuesday by banning him for Wednesday’s game and fining him $1.4 million for missing the four preseason games he skipped. Simmons has yet to make any money this season. What’s more, guess what? Unless he gets his act together and chooses to be a part of the club he signed up to play for, he won’t see another penny of the roughly $150 million left on his five-year deal.
However, if he continues to behave like a kid, he will be treated as one.
Ben, I congratulate you. Your desire was granted.
