The Old Republic, the MMORPG set in the Star Wars universe, is releasing a remastered edition of its original game. This move comes as part of an effort to revitalize the company and propel it into a new era.

System design, which is the subject of a recent dev blog from systems designer Bryant Wood, is responsible for the gameplay loops that keep players pursuing objectives in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Wood examines how systems designers like him consider short, medium, and long-term objectives, and then build or modify pathways to those goals to avoid burnout or boredom.
In honor of the game’s tenth anniversary, Wood concludes with a thank you to the players. “Seeing the incredible things gamers do with our ideas is the best feeling in the world. When we announce a new expansion, there is a lot of enthusiasm. The time and effort you devote to clearing new material or earning new rewards. He writes, “The look on your faces when you can’t believe we accomplished it.” “These responses demonstrate that my objectives have been met, and the work is much better than I could have imagined.”
