Curry purchased a non-fungible token (NFT) from Bored Ape Yacht Club in August for around $180,000, or 55 ether, according to Markets Insider. That NFT is shown on his profile photo.
So, what does any of this imply? Many of you may not understand what an NFT or an ether is (I’m not sure I do), but here’s the best way to describe it.
In contrast to something like bitcoin, which is fungible, “non-fungible” indicates that no one can replace an NFT with anything else, according to The Verge. You can exchange a bitcoin for the identical item you just got, but NFTs are one-of-a-kind trading cards. The Ethereum blockchain, which is a cryptocurrency similar to Bitcoin, has a large number of NFTs. Within the blockchain, an ether is a token.
Curry bought an NFT from Bored Ape Yacht Club, which contains 10,000 distinct ape NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain, for 55 ether. According to Markets Insider, Bored Ape Yacht Club sold apes for an average of 24.99 ether, or around $79,000, and had “$419 million in volume transactions” in August.
